Gaming Laptop Opinion

I am looking for a gaming laptop for my son. His absolute max budget is £600 although I would prefer him to spend a little less
, close to the £500 mark.
We have found this
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_V3-571G_Windows_8_Core_i7_Laptop_-_Black_NX.RZNEK.004/version.asp
which is at the top of his budget.
Games he plays mostly will be minecraft & terraria which I know do not warrant this spec, but he will want to play some of the more modern higher end games in the next 12 months and he wants to buy now...
Ideally 17" but 15.6" screen would suffice, HDMI out for external screen connection, 8Gb ram not sure if max 8Gb is limited for the future?
Any comments, ideas on other laptops or opinions would be great.
