I think that you must have missed this bit from my post:

You started your post saying that insurance can't be good value (not "isn't always good value") - I disagree with that statement so I don't think we're completely on the same page.

I am not going to dishonour my dog's memory by involving myself in a childish petty arguement on the same thread that I announced his pasing away.

I am so sorry chucknorris. It has been clear whenever you spoke of him how much you loved him.

Thanks, my wife and I were totally devastated. I was traumatised for a couple of days and since then I have had a great sense of loss, my life feels quite empty at the moment, but each day is marginally better than the day before.

It hits me hardest when I get up in the morning and he isn't at the bottom of the stairs, when I come home to an empty house and when I go out for a run.

It wasn't outdoors my friends cat had a 1k accident either, it was inside the home!

Luckily she had insurance for him.

It's always frightful. My horse and I had been together (though she had been on loan for a few years in the middle) for almost twenty years. She was an incredible girl, my husband learned to ride on her and she turned a hoof to anything. We even bought our house because we knew she would love it here.:o. I have clients horses here, including one I am terribly fond of who we will have to PTS at some point soon.....she's practically methuselah but cannot go on forever and is declining now. But it doesn't matter that I have others to love, its her I don't see every time I go out there. :(

I would never have a dog without having insurance. Mine are both with M&S, and they have paid out far, far more for my first dog than they will ever get from me in premiums. Of course, the premiums go up each year because of the number of claims I make, but considering his medication for his one on-going condition costs £200 a month...

My second dog has had no real problems so far, but I'm pretty sure she's starting with the first signs of arthritis now, so we could have some expensive vet bills ahead of us.

However, it's not just the vet's bills to take into consideration, but the third party cover. My dogs are each covered for up to £2,000,000 third party liability. Probably not many of us on this site have that much sitting in savings, or a high enough limit on our credit cards!
    Egg Loan - [strike]£4921.84[/strike] £0!! :j Barclaycard - £3866.47 Legal + Trade - [strike]£2700.96[/strike] £0!! :j Triton - [strike]£1730.89[/strike] £0!! :j Next - [STRIKE]£776.15[/STRIKE] £126.88 Littlewoods - [strike]£217.16[/strike] £0!! :j Housemate - [strike]£1300[/strike] £0!! :j Capital One - [STRIKE]£1652.51[/STRIKE] £1,081.58 Vanquis - [strike]£2337.75[/strike] £375.58
    A Payment A Day - £379.02 to Egg.
  • My dog would have cost me 4k by now if I didn't have insurance. I've only had him a year.

Membership of the Dogs Trust comes with £1m third liability cover. It is £25 a year which to be honest I consider a charitable donation rather than a cost for an insurance product. I donate so much more anyway to various dog rescue centres.
