If English is your first and only language is there much to be gained by having access to European satellite TV? If so, which?

Depends what you're into. Sometimes things like boxing matches are shown FTA abroad that are PPV here.0

Years ago, when I was in to that kind of thing, I used to watch F1 on German TV and listen to the BBC Radio commentary. It only got confusing when the German ads came on.Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

A lot of us do now that the BBC have 'lost' showing about half the races live. ORF1 HD shows the entire GP without add breaks unlike say RTL.
OP subscriptions can be cheaper than Sky and a lot of channels carry their local language and English (but not all).0 -
If you are into sport, you will get a wider variety from European countries. The language of the commentary is not relevant if it is a sport you are interested in.
Most of the popular films have an original English soundtrack and if you have the right receiver you can choose the English audio track.
The type of variety show which used to feature widely on UK channels (dance troupe, acrobats, singer, juggler etc.) is still popular in Europe and you don't need another language to enjoy them.0 -

Basically get a 1m motorised dish and a decent receiver and you wont look back
Also look here for a good installer and some more ideas on what you can get
