in Techie Stuff
I have purchased a new computer with xp. It has come with a 60 day free trial of nortons anti-virus and notrton firewall. This i'm currently using. But i prefer avg, can i remove the norton stuff and download avg. or should i just keep having norton running. I have also dowloaded ad-ware, as i used this before and it worked for me. Should i also have spybot as well. should i also use spywareblaster as i have read a lot about this. But would having all these 3 on at the same time be to much. i have also decided that i'm not gonna download to much onto the computer this time. Last time we had kazza lite, but i'm not going down that road with it again. I think that i'll just have winmx which i found better. Also do i have to put the nero burning programe back on, for it to work with winmx.

Have a look at Techie FAQ's which is a sticky at the top of this board. There's loads of security info there.
I suppose it's your choice at what point you start to use AVG - you might want to use Norton "cos it's there" until the trial period ends. Some people say not to have more than one antivirus running because could cause conflict, but I had two running at one stage and they were ok, I suppose it depends which ones, also can cause PC to run slower.Torgwen.....................

If you have no intention of keeping the Norton stuff after the trial period, I would get rid. Make sure you replace the firewall with either XP's own or something like Zone Alarm, which is preferable. Don't worry about having too many Anti Spyware programs. They all usually work well together. I have Adaware, Spywareblaster which stops spyware installing in the first place and Spywareguard which alerts you to homepage hijacks etc.
Sorry, I can't advise on WinMX and Nero as I don't use it.This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Get rid of Norton. Too many probs with XP/SP2.....I dont know why so many people use it.....Maybe because its a 'bundled' software or cas it says it does this and it does the other.
Its horrid.......Norton is only good at one thing and thats taking over a p.c. The norton system works thingy makes me laugh.....

nortons seems to be a love or hate thing. I think it takes up too much resources and I don't like it - but on the other hand why turn away from something that's free
You can have as many anti-spyware programs on your computer as you want - I have lots.
The only thing is to make sure you don't set more than one to be scanning constantly - e.g there's not much point in having spybot's teatimer protection and microsoft's anti-spyware equivelant on at the same time0 -
