Can I make my computer wireless?

-
The main questions are really-
How far a distance between the router and the pc? If same room \ couple of metres then its a bit of cost to just avoid one cable..
If there is quite a distance, is there a decent enough wireless signal in the room that you then intend to use the computer in? Try testing this with another device to see if within the wireless range..
Check the computer to see if has built in wifi - check for aerial on back or settings in control panel.
If not then looking at either a PCI Card (involved opening up the pc unit) or USB type. But be weary as sometimes the USB type have a shorter range.
What Type of wireless router do you have - is it 802.11 b/g/n ? as this will determine what your possible highest speed is on wifi (different to your internet speed).. If its only b/g then this would be slower than what your wired connection is running at - as this could be 100/1000 speed..
If you use iplayer \ other streaming on the pc - then you may infact find that switching to wireless would actually slow this down..
So whilst you may be dropping a wire - your connection \ experience may be affected..0
