Hi FTB'ers
We've had an offer accepted on a house on saturday. I'm trying to choose a solicitor for the conveyencing. I am willing to pay to get good service so am not necessarily after the cheapest company.
I thought solicitor would be the easy part
The solictors that the E.A recommend i've googles and all the reviews say don't touch with a barge pole, no communication, you have to chase them daily etc.
I'm panicking now! Is there a place that reviews them all as i can't find one on google.
If anyone can recommend a good one around Aylesbyury or advise how to select a good one your help would be appreciated!

I rang around a dozen local solicitors (following a google search) which included local branches of some of the bigger organisations.
One of them stood out above the rest for me as I had an email that evening detailing their costs, was told who would be apoointed to deal with our case, enabling me to look them up. This was then followed by an email the following morning stating they understood my concerns being a first time buyer etc and was very friendly and put my mind at ease. Not only that but they turned out to be the cheapest and open on a Saturday morning too to drop off paperwork etc!
I would say it is best to ring them and speak to them and ask them to email over a breakdown of their costs, that way you will establish their telephone manner and how quickly they respond to requests!!
Good luckBecame a first time buyer quite unexpectedly in June 2013!! :j0 -
I would avoid on-line solicitors and look for a solicitor local to the area where you are buying. If possible ask around neighbours and friends who have recently moved and had a good experience. The advice given above to phone around is also good - you'll get a feel for the telephone manner and also their response times.
This is one area where face to face communication (or at least voice to voice) beats the internet hands down.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
