Barratt Homes

Thanks everyone for your views. I'm glad to hear that at least some people give them a thumbs up.
Firefox I do see what you're saying and i know that Barratt have done some truly horrendous things in the past but tbh i think the same thing could be said of pretty much any house builder.
I'm going to look at a house tomorrow and have thoroughly read the consumer code for house builders as well as sites about buying new builds which advise what questions to ask. I'll report back tomorrow what i found.0 -

As said, there are some terrible stories about new builds, but there are also thousands of unreported very happy customers.
FYI Barratt regularly gets a 90%+ recommendation rating, so 90%+ of its customers would recommend them to friends and family.

After VW bought them. Get a grip!0 -
Ouch! That's a little harsh don't you think David29dpo? Ok it may have taken another company buying them up for them to change but i think martin's point is still valid that buying a skoda now is a completely different thing to one 20 years ago.
Incidentally we viewed one of the houses in the style we're interested in today. I must say we were quite impressed. The site looks very well organised and tidy and the site manager was very upfront with us. I have also discovered he has won awards each of the last two years. The perceived wisdom appears to be that if you've got a good site manager generally you'll get a well built house so i am reassured.0 -
A bit harsh?
But its a different product!!
If someone is stupid enough to believe a Skoda is Skoda thats there lookout.0 -
I bought a Barratts home in September 2012, so far it's been nothing but fantastic.
We had a couple of tiny niggles (one of the internal doors didn't click shut properly and our worktop had a scratch). Both were fixed within a couple of days without any problem.0 -
Thanks Chris, another positive response....awesome! So far the experiences of anyone on here who's bought a Barratt home has been good and all the issues are what's been reported in the press a few years ago.0

You’re just proving my point, which is that things change, the people at the top of any company (both management and owners) in the 80’s are long gone by now, saying Barratt build some bad houses in the 80’s so must be bad now is as absurd as saying Skoda’s were bad in the 80’s so must be bad now (which is factually wrong).
Calm down!0 -
If you do end up buying a new build, pay for professional snagging before you exchange.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Hi,
Sorry but another question has occurred to me! Jamie, Hilda and Chris can you give me any info on what came as standard in your homes and whether the extras are worth bothering with?
Thanks again!0
