How easy is it to change accountant?

I'm starting to get annoyed with my accountant. He takes ages to reply to e-mails (sometimes I have to call him up a week later) and I'm under the impression he has taken on more people than he can handle. Also, I pay him £90 a month, yet others pay him £70 for the same service.
Anyway, I'm not convinced by the guy and was wondering how easy it is to change accountant. I am a self-employed contractor with my own limited company. I'm worried that if I quit my current accountant my accounts may go to the s*****. Or should my accountant inform me of everything that needs doing so I can inform the new accountant?
Sorry if this isn't very clear

Find a new accountant and just notify the current one that you'll be changing.0

How about communicating your concerns to him first and asking for a more responsive service? He may be entirely unaware of your dissatisfaction. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

It is straight forward to switch accountants, your only issue is the amount of time it may take to notify HMRC given PAYE has to be filed in real time these days.
You just need to check your contract with your accountant to see what notice you are required to give0
