Buyer leaving positive feedback then claiming item not arrived?

I buy more than I sell so I am just a casual seller on eBay. I used to post everything recorded delivery until the recent price rises and I have never had an issue in 347 transactions until now.
I sent an item which was won for £7.10 (60p postage) first class letter on Friday. On Saturday the buyer gave me the following feedback "good ebayer , much appreciated, received very soon after payment" which left me satisfied that the item had arrived, the buyer was happy and that the transaction was complete. I left feedback in return, deleted the transaction from 'My Ebay' and discarded the proof of postage.
Now the seller has contacted me this morning claiming that they have not received it. I responded by questioning the feedback they left me on Saturday but they haven't responded to that yet.
They haven't yet opened a case, but if they do where would I stand with eBay/PayPal? Would their feedback back me up because if I was to refund I no longer have the proof of postage to claim back off the Royal Mail.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

You can't prove delivery as you didn't send it tracked. If they open a case, they will win regardless of the feedback left.
If you've thrown away the proof of postage, you won't be able to claim from Royal Mail either.
Don't do anything more until they open a case - does anything in their feedback suggest this has happened before?0 -
I know that I can't prove delivery, I have never had an issue before and if any problems were to arise I would have just claimed from Royal Mail.
Their feedback suggests that the item had arrived, they were happy and that the transaction was completed so I completed it from my end too, what was I supposed to have done?
Looking through their feedback it looks like they leave the same feedback to everyone, either "good ebayer" or "good ebayer , much appreciated, received very soon after payment" which is what they left me.0 -

Their feedback probably won't be taken into account.0

Unfortunately, they could argue that they left feedback for the wrong person, and indeed this may well be the case.
I'd just wait and see what they say, but if they raise a case then you'll just have to refund and put it down to experience.
In future, hold on to your proof of postings for 6 months, regardless of whether or not you think the items have been delivered.0 -

Similar happened to me once, I did use a tracked service only recorded delivery though, item never arrived Royal Mail admitted they lost it but it was up to me to claim the money back used the online form and posted to Portsmouth , I refunded the person when I seen the tracking number didnt bear an end signature and said sorry , if you buy or sell on ebay you must accept losses as well as gains. Not everything arrives and somethings arrive broken at times.NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0

Yeah without it being tracked, buyer will win, without a doubt.0
