Thanks, yeh from what I can find about similar schemes on the Internet you usually get *something* extra even if you don't buy the shares but appears to be nothing here..

The "something" is normally a tax-free bonus (interest), calculated as a percentage (or multiple) of the monthly contributions you make.

This "something" is set by the government, though, who for the current schemes have set it to zero- it'slower than it used to be (now zero! good thing it's tax free...)

I've looked at the small print
    https://online.ybs.co.uk/downloads/support_files/H526/GB/sstc.pdf

and there appears to be no interest payable on money saved (basically YBS have the employees money for free over the period), so its a play on Morries share price

  • As has already been stated there is no bonus currently being paid. The rate of bonus is set by the Government and it is currently set to zero.

These days, it is a gamble on the share price although your option price have a level of discount included. So, even if the share price remains stagnant over the next 3 years you should still come out a winner.

My next one matures on the 1st March, as things stand today I'm looking at a 65p profit, per share.

Another option is of course to buy the shares and keep them. Not sure if Morrison pays a dividend?

Morries currently yield 4.4% , but the share price is flat, inflation is whittling away the discount benefit.
  • I'm in one and contribute the maximum (£250 per month) and have utilised them regularly over the years........
They have been excellent in terms of financial gain........
  • so will a new application open up in 2014? because i am a new employee?
  • Yes, the 2014 invitation should be available to you, usually a 3 year or 5 year savings plan with a maximum payment of £250 per 4 week/month.
Sometimes if there oversubscribed your monthly sum can be factored down, but this would be communicated to you before the first payment was due.
I'm in the Sainsburys one.....they are usually oversubscribed as most colleagues understand that they are a good, risk free, investment strategy.

Additionally, in the November statement Osborne announced that the monthly maximum will rise from £250 to £500.

This doesn't necessarily mean that all companies will automatically allow employees to double their monthly investment (they don't have to do this), but there's a good chance that many will be able to save/invest extra from next April.
