S&S investment for a minor

Hi all

Perhaps you could help me.

My nephew has a sum of money sitting in a savings account. As he doesn't need the money for some time, I think he would do better in investing in equities. BUT, he's only 8.

So, do you know if he is able to invests in S&S in some manner, perhaps in the name of his mum?

Thanks very much.

I am sure there are funds around which can be invested on behalf of a minor but to save yourself a time consuming search, I suggest you try contacting somebody like Hargreaves Lansdown, who are probably one of the best known financial services companies around. They will not necessarily be able to recommend a specific fund for your nephew but have a good knowledge of the market and what is available Website: https://www.h-l.co.uk

Unit trusts can be set up in the mums name re: child with no problem at all. Every provider of unit trusts can do it.

F&C do a Childs Investment Plan which can be opened as a trust.

I am sure other financial institutions do similar plans and they are typically limited to the companies own range of Oeics and Invesment Trusts.
