a friend of ours has had the benefits paying

her mortgage whilst she fell ill. but the benefits have been paying over 100 or so pounds extra per month to the mortgage company. can she ask the mortgage company to pay that extra bit back to her? she needs quite a few bits for her health and that money would come in useful. thanks for any help!

  • Why would the dwp be paying extra towards the mortgage? Or do you mean some type of insurance policy?
Its all mind over matter. I don't mind and you don't matter:rotfl:

they should only be paying her mortgage interest at a rate of 3.5%
if, for some reasin, they have overpaid it, the money doesnt then become 'hers' and the DWP will want it back

The DWP will pay at 3.63% regardless of what the individual's interest rate may be. If more is being paid than what is required then the lender should be taking this off the balance of the mortgage.

I assume that your friend has stopped / reduced the payments that she is making (to take account of the DWP payments)? If not, she needs to talk to the lender to do this.

is your friend now in an interest only mortgage?
    if so what percentage rate?
how much is outstanding on the mortgage??
how much are DWP paying towards the mortgage?

I take it that your friends mortgage is interest only. My mortgage interest rate is lower than the rate the DWP pay but it is repayment so in effect the DWP are paying some of my capital (I pay the rest of the capital to meet the monthly payment).
