Bonds and Gilts - Index Funds

I need to add some Bonds and Gilts to my Fund ISA, currently 100% equities across a wide range of asset classes, to provide some defensiveness. I know little about Bond and Gilts. I am looking for Tracker Funds, to keep costs down, and would appreciate some incite as to what other investors have in their portfolios. I hope that a few ‘name drops’ will get me started in the right direction.
