House buying questions...

We have been looking for a house for over a year, but took a break to allow us to save more money so we could go above the stamp duty threshold.

I have seen a house pop up on rightmove today in the perfect location at the right price, very similar to another house we looked at but were outbid on.

Two questions really:
  1. We are going on holiday in 3 weeks (for 3 weeks). If we have an offer accepted on this property is this enough time to get everything done before going away? Could a house purchase be managed from the other side of the world?
  2. We tried to buy a house through this agent last year, and they were very poor throughout the whole process. They were useless and rude at the viewing, they waited 3 days before passing on our offer and then a further week before telling us it was not successful (we found out that the vendor accepted a lower offer the day after we made ours to the EA). At the same time they were trying to push us into buying another house that was nothing like what we wanted. They were so bad my GF complained to the branch manager, will this have got us blacklisted?

  • Hi there

    1. Yes definitely house purchased can be managed by other side of the world easily, thanks to some good real estate agents that make this task easier.

    2. You have not mentioned your estate name, however it is necessary to deal with good property agents, these days many people start property searches on the Internet. A quick keyword search on Google by location will likely get you thousands of results. If you spot a property of interest on a real estate web site, you can typically view photos online and maybe even take a virtual tour.

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Well the estate agent doesn't remember me and has booked us in for 3 house viewings.

I haven't told them we are going on holiday as I am worried about it counting against us.
  • I managed to have an offer accepted on a property and instruct surveyors and solicitors whilst in Italy, so it's very easy to do. And the conveyancing process is frequently painfully slow, so they won't have done much by the time you get back!
