Euro lock 40/50 where can I find one cheaply?

I am looking for a euro profile lock measurement 40/50 (90mm) in total. Have looked at screfix/toolstation but they only have it as 35 or 55. So it is either 5mm shorter or longer. Would this make a difference? They are priced under £10.

I have two front doors leading into the property. The first door is double glazed. The 2nd door is wooden with a mortice lock. The kids will have a key to the front door only so if they lose it (which one has) it won't cost a lot to replace the lock. I already have a CISA lock which I fit if leaving the property empty. And yes the kids do not have the key to that.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

If you go for a really cheap Euro cylinder, you may be compromising on security. Many of the cheaper ones which have fewer pins are easy to open with a simple technique.

Even the CISA ones have been found not to be completely secure!

Remember that your door and window locks are your first line of defence.

I'd second ebay too,:T, plus a quick troll around of your local door/window manufacturers could be helpful.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

If you want the advice of a Master Locksmith then your options are:

40/50 Yale anti snap euro cylinder BS Kite Marked 1 star TS007
40/50 Yale Superior euro cylinder BS Kite marked 1 star TS007
40/50 ABS anti snap cylinder BS Kite Marked 3 Star TS007

The ABS cylinder is a monster to break - we advise customers to buy this if they want the best. They are just as good as the commercial Mul-T-Lock cylinders that we we install in MOD contracts!

The only problem is if the ABS euro lock is attacked - getting it out to replace it can be a challenge even for a Master Locksmith!!

    Hi Toby/Tony,

I would always advise you go for a BS Kite Marked 1 star cylinder as a minimum - Yale do them, however it won't be long before the insurance industry insist on uPVC doors to have a 3 star euro lock/handle system.
The 'star' system adds up - IE cylinders can have 1-3 stars and handles can have 1-3 stars. They will have to reach a total of 3 stars together.
Currently most cylinders can be snapped and the house entered in under 30 seconds with a screw driver and a pair of mole grips..... despite a very strong multipoint locking system on the uPVC door - the euro cylinder is the weak point.
If you want a total quick fix - take a look at the ABS / Avocet Mk3 cylinders, they are 3 star on their own (you don't even need handles!!)

Wazza - it makes a huge difference to having a flush fitting cylinder, compared to one sticking out of the handle faceplates.

You want to make sure the lock is as flush as possible - without under doing it. 3mm is ok but 5mm means you needed a smaller cylinder.

The reason is an opportunist burglar with a pair of mole grips + screw driver can snap the cylinder and enter your home in less than 30 seconds. If it sticks out +5mm then it's even easier..

Unless you install quality anti snap cylinders that are BS Kite marked, anti snap and ideally 3 star rated. Yale do a 1 star version and also sell handles which offer an additional 2 star protection.
Most handles on uPVC doors can be ripped off in 5 seconds, exposing a huge section of the cylinder - which then offers massive leverage to snap the lock in half.

It amazes me why people will spend £500 on a new door, but have a euro cylinder fitted that is nothing more than a 'chocolate fireguard' and for just £20 more, you could make it bomb proof!

    Great advice, Mathew.

The inadequacy of bog-standard Euro locks REALLY needs to be brought to public attention.

Does it make sense to pay five hundred quid for a door with multiple latches, hooks and bolts and protect it with a ten quid lock? The maths alone should ring alarm bells.

The crazy thing is we install safes that cost £15,000+ and the front door locks/cylinders are made of cheese..... I will make it my mission to explain that £40 on a front door lock that will last 10 years is a good investment.... it seems everyone will pay £40 for an X-Box game, but not £40 for a lock to stop any opportunist robber taking your X-Box, the Tv's and all your personal belongings.

Ask anyone 'after' being robbed - would you pay £40 for a front door lock, and the answer would be 100% yes.

Leeds council have just installed 10,000 anti snap 3 star cylinders on one regions housing stock.... guess what, burglaries have dropped to nearly ZERO...

It seems that the Avocet Abs MK3 Euro cylinder is about the best on offer currently?

So then, does anyone know where to buy these most cost effectively at the moment? The lowest price I've seen is circa £32 a piece.
