I have an installation CD which is mac compatible apparently as well as windows compatible.
I have loaded the CD into a windows PC and viewing its CD drive on the MBP.
If I was to load onto the pc, autorun would just take over and I'd have no problem.
How can I download the software onto the MBP? when I try to open autrun exe file it says it's not compatible.
What kind of file on the CD should I look for for the mac?

There is normally a .dmg (Disk Image) installation file or .pkg (Package) installation file. They might be in a folder called MacOSX.
The CD should mount itself on your mac desktop (it will look like a flash drive folder) and it should open automatically just like a windows autorun.0 -
The CD is not showing on my desktop.
I wonder if I have done something wrong. I went to finder> Go> Connect to Server> IP address of windows Pc and signed in.
I can see the contents of the CD ok within finder but nothing on the desktop.
Sadly no OSX folder. Windows 7 and Windows 8 folder though.
The box definitely says compatible with mac though.0 -
There should be a shortcut or file within the 'Finder' that will auto run the software, look for as mentioned a .dmg file or something that is visible and not faded out.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0

I'm battling with two things here:
1. getting to grips with how to read finder. As soon as I click on the f-drive it just shows me the folders and doesn't autorun
2. software.
Is it possible that becuse the cd is in a windows machine, I can't see the mac compatible files?
There is supposed to be different software for windows and software for mac ( as well as drivers). I can only 'see' the windows software.
( It's EyeTV DTT I'm trying to load)0 -
This is frustrating. I am convinced that I am unable to see the mac stuff.
It's supposed to have drivers, EyeTv software for the mac and THC software for windows.
I can only 'see' THC software and within driver folder a windows 7 and windows 8 folder.
The CD label states compatible with mac.
So i've either got an incorrect disk or I'm somehow being prevented from seeing all the mac type files.0 -
I can open pdf files from the cd so it's not an issue of mac not being able to access the contents of the cd.
I may have to give up. No dmg files anywhere0 -
If you are looking at the cd drive and its content through a Network, you need to put the cd inside the mac computer......if this is not possible for whatever reason(s) then you could copy the cd content (folders and files) onto a network......either way, you need to find a .dmg file or .pkg file.
What is the software you are trying to install?0 -
There is no cd drive on the mac.
I have also copied the contents of the cd into my documents in windows pc and whether I view that folder or the cd folder in 'finder' I can't see any dmg files.
I now think my cd is a windows version only. there is a card giving the option to download the software and i'm doing that now ( a dmg file) but am worried in case the product needs drivers for the mac because again nothing visible on the cd other than windows drivers.
I thought this would be nice and straightforward.0 -
so download the dmg file and all should be okay.......what are you trying to install?0

I put a different cd I have in the drive to test and can see dmg files no problem. So i conclude that the cd that came with the product is for windows only.
So I am downloading the software ( eyeTV3) from the web and hope that will work but concerned that if drivers are needed as I don't know where to get those. I'll have another go tomorrow0
