    I've been Money Tipped!
Up to you TBH. Think through how life will look without the double, and how it will look with the double.

FWIW, I have 22 months between mine. I researched and trialed double buggies when preg with 2nd, but never bought one then, but decided which model I would go for.

I then lived with the 2 babies - 1st off toddler in pram still, 2nd in sling. Then as 2nd grew, I put eldest on a buggy board and baby out of sling into the pram.

Worked brilliantly for us. And so glad I never bought the pram, but was prepared to just order immediately if life hadn't worked without a double.
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I had a slighter bigger gap of just over 36 months and never had a double buggy, but I live round the corner from the state nursery son attended and had my own car to drive to further away playgroups/nursery son attended previously. Eldest liked to walk back then (he's now a amazing teen!). Are you likely to be on your own when you go to places like the zoo? As we had an umbrella style buggy we used this in addition to the pram/pushchair we were using for youngest.
Sorry for going OT but I was reading thru the thread seeing if anyone had an age gap closer to the OP and what they did and spotted what I'd written, only I didn't originally put that I put lazy teen :D whistfully thinking of the days when son did want to walk! Only son asked to use pc whilst I was in middle of post and obviously edited it. Wish I was back in the days of double buggy dilemma.:D

Both mine were turfed out the buggy at around 3 to 3-and-a-half years. If you don't want to buy a double then I'd suggest a combination of a sling for the baby and a buggy-board for the elder, and they can take it in turns over who gets to sit down.

It bugs me when I see really old children still in their buggy - there are parents at my son's school who still wheel around their 4-year-olds who are due to start school in september.

Thanks everyone. Lots to consider. I have a maclaren quest buggy (lightweight umbrella style) and a Silvercross sleepover pram. I will probably buy a buggy board for the pram and take the buggy as an extra if there are two adults.
The sling idea is a good one but I'm not sure it'll suit me as I will get hot an bothered and prefer the baby to be wrapped up cosy in their pram.
One thing that puts me off the double prams is weight and ease of folding etc. I struggled to manage a Silvercross 3d travel system after my first. Didn't have the strength after caesarian and so since I'll probably have another caesarian I expect the double buggies would be a nightmare.
My little boy loves walking and probably it being a winter baby this time we won't walk as far until the Spring anyway and by that point he'll be nearly three. So if I see one going cheap at carboot I might pick one up but otherwise I'll try to do without. Don't want to be a pram collector. My friend has a two year old and a 6 month old and 3 prams plus a buggy.:rotfl:

This made me chuckle. I teach teenage boys and although they often amaze me and do make me laugh they are definitely more stress inducing than my nearly two year old.

Some can't bear to acknowledge their kids aren't babies and some just prefer the kids to be strapped in because its easier to manage them. My little one is well trained from walking to school with the childminder and lots of walks with us so hopefully I'll cope. Our trip to the zoo was a good test as i was pushing the buggy and holding reins and it was manageable :)

There was a 2yr 6 month gap between my boys, with DS2 coming along in in the October. I didn't even consider a double buggy and never wished I had. What we had done for a holiday abroad was to buy a lightweight stroller, and if we hadn't already got that, we'd have got one of those so when both of us were out with the boys we used that for DS1 if it was a long day walking. Otherwise if it was a short day or me on my own with them I just had a wrist strap and he walked with me
