Can we use 'whois' to find out a physical address?

WHOIS gives the address I've already posted in Bristol.

They are not making themselves easy to locate geographically.

Its interesting that they choose to hide themselves to protect "staff", yet still give enough information to a....(is it customer?)......Lets say, Victim, in order to get their fee....erm I mean ransom. At the same time they can quote that all they need is your I.P address as proof of purchase. suppose it was accessed via a university, school or any public building, who pays the ransom?

If this is the way of the future with online companies, its a very scary prospect, how it can be legal beggers beleif. In effect, if I have any gripes with my boss, or a relative, anyone really, all I need do is click on that site using their pc, or hack their IP, install a virus and ive effectively crippled them, fortunatley im not techie enough, or sadistic enough to contemplate it, but I imagine there are those out there with the capability.

Worse scenario has to be, if someone can do this to a computer "legally", there are those more than willing to do it "illegally". It seems they have been given the green light to do so.

Imagine what this system could do to a business, literally cripple it, and this is legal?

I for one will do whatever it takes to have this outlawed, not just for everyone elses sake, but for mine, im just a small fish granted, but if enough fishes can make ripples, surely the tide can turn.

Hi - thank you so much for posting this problem, I too have been having this pop up bill appearing on my screen, I have read the bill etc and it sounds like a legitimate billing system. Unfortunately I believed that it was genuine and then accused my other half of accessing !!!!!! when I wasn't in! He has absolutely denied it and is now more than a little annoyed with me and I haven't had the courage to tell him about this posting! I feel awful now and don't know what to do :o

I can categorically assure the good lady that her husband despite protestations to the contrary was indeed looking at the ladies. :D
  • This has caused all sorts of problems on my computer over the past few days. I managed to get rid of the bill that kept apprearing using PrevX but from then on I couldn't access the internet unless I started IE without add-ons, and couldn't follow links that opened up in a separate window. I couldn't close down the computer without holding in the ON button, couldn't use any drop-down boxes (they froze everything), and sometimes couldn't close Outlook Express if'd I'd forgotten myself and tried to follow a link from an email. I've had a friend look at the computer today and he's fixed some of the problems. But since he left I've found I keep getting a window appear saying Internet Explorer has encountered problems and has to close, so there's still a problem somewhere. It's a total nightmare.

Have you tried a system restore as suggested on this thread?

It isn't entirely clear that all downloads come directly as a result of accessing the p*rn sites in question, although to date the evidence points that way. There have certainly been some very very odd instances of it coming onto people's computers, and internet history tells us that shady types have succeeded in doing just this in the past.

Frankly, I wouldn't trust MBS as far as I could throw Mr. Ashley Bateup - and by the look of him, that wouldn't be very far!

In everything I've read, even MBS quoted responses on the pc advisor forums, I've yet to see an adequate reply to the question "what if a 3rd party spyware program signed you up?" it would certainly be simple for some malware to spoof a click or just simply download the MBS software itself. I think they're in complete denial their system is inherently flawed, or more likely they don't care.

Just had a thought, I presume a Mac or Linux (or even Acorn :)) machine wouldn't even run the MBS popup. If they were concerned about genuine payment then why target only (relatively) security vulnerable systems?
