buying at an antiques fair

my partner has recentley bought an art deco clock at an antiques fair. as it wasnt a cheap item the sellar let him pay in instalments. when he had paid the final amount my partner was given the clock along with a piece of paper saying what he had bought and for how much.
however, upon getting it home he realised that the clock was far to big for where he had planned to put it.
the next day he rang the sellar and explaind the situation and would he pe prepared to buy it back. the sellar wasnt very keen to do this.
where does my partner stand, the piece of paper has no company name or VAT number on it.

I've sold at an antique fair and do not have a VAT number and do not understand why that is an issue? I also don't use a trading name on receipts as I trade as 'me'.
Regardless of that you have no rights to any sort of a return all you can do is sell it on, but obviously unless you are lucky you will probably not get back what you paid for it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. where does my partner stand,
Next to a rather large clock I imagine...
If the seller is not interested in buying it back (and it would be at a lower price...), then he can either find somewhere else to put it, sell it elsewhere, or buy a bigger house!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Surely your partner will be able to sell on the clock, maybe even make a little profit on it as well, a la 'Antiques Road Trip' ??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
