You don't earn job seekers. You are given it.

David Cameron would be proud of you Dovah Diva...However, I think you'll find that in terms of worry, stress, anxiety and sleepless nights, not to mention the humiliating way some Job Centre staff (and I stress some not all) treat their clients, people do actually go through quite a lot for their Jobseekers Allowance.
I for one am sick of the current government ministerial mantra which goes along the lines of: "We want to reward hard work", or "those who work hard must be rewarded". I would work very hard (and hopefully be rewarded) were I able to find employment. However, the best I've been able to do for the past four years has been occasional temporary contracts.
Of course hard work should be recognised. However, a little more compassion and understanding for those like my wife and I who are going through financial hell at present because I'm finding it impossible to obtain permanent employment would not go amiss.
Thousands of people are desperately struggling to find work and many of them are finding it increasingly difficult to listen to the pious uncaring bleatings of Ian Duncan Smith and his cronies.

blah blah blah, lets blame the nasty Tories, what about the bankers??

The unemployable are just that, but largely through their own choice not to develop skills needed by society. After all, anyone who has invested time and effort in learning knowledge or a skill can sell it. It's got nothing to do politicians.

Emotive rant noted. You still don't earn jobseekers. Oh and please don't assume I know nothing of unemployment.

Dohvah Diva, I really can't see where in my post I suggested you knew nothing of unemployment. What irritated me was the way you found it necessary to point out to the OP Jobseekers Allowance is "given, not earned". Entitlement to contributions based JSA is based on money paid out of wages at source (PAYE) in the form of National Insurance contributions so in a way it is earned. You will not get contributions based JSA if you have not contributed sufficiently to NI.

Dealer Wins, I'm not blaming the Tories for the current situation. It's their attitude towards people facing the misery of unemployment that annoys me. I don't for one minute think David Cameron believes everyone who is out of work and claiming benefits is a work shy scrounger. However, he does seem quite happy for some of his ministers to make comments which at least hint this is the case. The situation many people find themselves in at present is too serious for them to simply play to the middle-England gallery in this way. However, as Margaret Thatcher found out with the poll tax, even middle-England can attack a Conservative Government when the chips are really down.

What irritates me is the way unemployed people state they have earned their JSA. It is frankly insulting to those that do work hard to earn their wages. Entitlement to contribution based JSA is dependent on contributions (the clue is in the title) but there are many millions claiming income based JSA that have paid nothing, or very little into the 'pot'. This is free money to the claimant. As is housing benefit & council tax benefit. Furthermore, there are a huge number of claimants that have paid nowhere near the amount they are given.
  • yes it does apart from a few exceptions, but nearly all the lower end payday loans do.

As said by someone before me i beg to differ, Name 3?
