Not really a techie so i'll try and explain the best way i can.
On my computer there's 2 accounts, mine and my hubby's. His is working fine, ie-same as before, but mine has changed this week, so i know there's basically just been a change in my settings and the whole computer, if that makes sense?!
Anyway, the changes are;
1. I'm now not able to log into MSN messenger. Firstly it takes ages for my username and password to appear after i type them in. Then i get the following message: 'Signing into MSN messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.' Now i know this isn't true becasue it's been 'unavailble' for me since i've started having all the other problems and also because it's 'available' everytime when i log in from my hubby's account
2. I try logging into MSN through meebo since the normal way won't work! like you do!
 but meebo throughs the following message back at me: 'Meebo does not support your browser yet. Stay tuned!' Well it used to support it before!
3. I'm looking for a holiday  and didn't have a problem with the teletext holidays site last week. But this week when i do a search it says: 'Error - browser doesn't support xmlhttp' Now i'm thinkin the clue is in that message somewhere.
But like i said, i ain't no techie.
4. I got a similar message when i tried updating my pureprofile: 'Your browser does not support XMLHTTP'
So come on, help me out! Tell me what buttons to press and what options to tick, etc! :rotfl:
My first post on the techie board. Please be nice

Which browser are you both using?
Have you downloaded any updates for Windows or your browser immediately prior to the problem occuring?
If so, can you roll back to a Restore Point prior to the updates and see if that cures it?
It seems this error is coming up on some browsers when they access websites containing certain Ajax commands.0 -

Firstly, thankyou for replying.
Highly embarrassing, but how do i know exactly which browser i'm using?
I assume we're both using the same.
I have downloaded Windows updates but it was a few weeks before this problem started occuring. Don't know if hubby has.
Sometimes going back to a restore point helps sort the problem straight away so i don't know why i didn't think of doing this. I will try this and let you know but i can't do it till later on as hubby sometimes loses some of his 'stuff' by doing this.0 -

When you open your browser it should tell you on the blue bar at the top of the window. It will say Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox or something. To find out the version you're using, click on Help and "About Internet Explorer/Firefox etc."
The only thing about going back to a Restore Point is that you will lose any updates to Windows or programs you have installed since that Point. That's the purpose of the action - to remove anything that may have caused the problem. You can then download/instal what you did before, one thing at a time, to see what makes the computer act this way.0 -

Hi,
see you are still on IE6, IE7 is available, check for update, you can always remove it in Add/Remove, if you don't like it.0 -
Just to let anyone who's interested know, that i restored last night and that's sorted it.
Had to wait till last night because, just as i imagined, hubby lost some software that he just downloaded this week... oh well!
so now the thanks button is in workin order again! woohoo! :rotfl:
thankyou all for your help0 -
Well done, angel.
Of course, your hubby knows exactly where he downloaded the programs from and can replace them in minutes!!!;)
And, in restoring them one by one, he can see which one of them caused your computer the problem, after which you can go back to the same Restore Point and wipe them all out again.
