  • insures you for up to £28 I believe.

Just to clarify, it's £30, since the postage for 1st class increased to 30p.

Actually it has remained at £28 despite the price increase, just check out the info on https://www.royalmail.co.uk which states (as at today)

" Compensation of up to £28 for loss or damage, with your free certificate of posting (available from your local Post Office™ when you post your mail) "

You can obtain a COP, which I do a lot of the time, and this does not cost anything, however I do not know how reliable they are when it comes to claiming compensation.QUOTE]

They are pretty good actually, although you don't get your postage charge back. I've found that they usually send you the cheque within a few weeks.

E-mail them back saying you have had deliveries take ages to get to France as the french are usually on strike every week or so.

Tell them to allow 91 days before reporting missing items to you. ;)

thats nearly 3 months .. i wouldnt be prepaired to wait that long no matter what country i was in .. if he knows of no problems with the postal service his end.. ie no strikes etc then why should he wait nearly 3 months..

No - its £30 as was stated. Whatever the Royal mail website may say - it is wrong if it says otherwise.

I think you're right, the PO state this on the back of a recorded for slip:

If your item is lost or damaged...
We'll pay you compensation for the value of your item up to 100 times the cost of a basic weight First Class stamp. We do not pay compensation for money, jewellery or other items of value sent Recorded. For a claim form, call 0845 7 740 740 calls charged at local rates or pick one up at a post office.

So can we also assume therefore that recorded delivery compensation has now increased to £30 as well as that would be rather handy?

I shan't trust the Royal Mail website anymore :-(
