Paid twice in error but Barclaycard wont refund

Options
I made a payment over the phone for hubbys credit card as he is out of the country and asked them to send a paper statement so we don't miss it while he is away. Needless to say, they hadnt put permission for me to speak to them on the file even though we thought we had arranged this.

Asked hubby to phone from abroad to sort this bit out and they told him his payment was overdue so he paid again.

He phoned them back to complain when he realised the error but because he hasn't got his own card details with him (I emailed him mine which is on his account) they won't refund the second payment.

What can we do? We overpaid by £180 :(

Are you in credit or still carrying a balance? You should be able to get the credit back, but payments will not generally be refunded if you still have a balance.

I do still have a balance but they told my husband in error that the payment was outstanding when in fact I had already paid it. We have therefore paid twice in the same month :(

They said as its their error they would refund but not without his own credit card details which he doesnt have with him

I'm guessing you're a secondary card holder on his account.

Where's your husband's card? Don't you have any statements, which would have account number on them?

You mentioned that you and your husband have asked them to send paper statements. That suggests he has online account access. Could he (or you at a push) log in to his account and send them a secure message? Although if he uses his account number, rather than a username, I guess that wouldn't be possible.

If he does use his account number to log in, does he have it stored somewhere you could retrieve it from?

Do £180 of spending on the card.

A couple of Tesco trips should do the job.

Can't you just phone him and give him his card details ? Then he can call them.

    Or one visit to Starbucks.
