Just thought I would share with everyone what I brought last week.
Tesco sell value cooking bacon for 80p and it tastes SO nice and there is SO much of it!!
I usually buy a massive pack from macro but last week I brought this pack, It managed to do 15 bacon sandwiches (had friends and family over) So much better value than other bacon where you would only get a few rashers for the price, it works amazing in the frying man and tastes like high quality bacon.
Tesco value 2 loafs of bread- £1.00 for 2
Tesco Cooking bacon- 80p
=1.80 for a bacon sandwhich every day of the week!

I've used this, and the value cooking bacon from other supermarkets too. I find it great for putting in quiches, omelettes, and any other cooking that you would use lardons in. Also I use it to make chicken, bacon and mayo filling for sandwiches/jacket pots and, as you say, bacon sarnies!
Only word of advice is that its not worth putting it in an online shop, as the quality varies massively from one pack to the next, and the picker will most likely just chuck the first pack in - some are just a bag of fat and rind, and others are pure meat off cuts. I like to have a good rummage through and pick the pack that best suits my needs - as little fat as possible, and either large chunks or rashers depending on what I'm planning on using it for. It's a really good value way of buying bacon.0 -
If you are lucky enough to find a pack with thicker rashers, these can be cooked as gammon for a main meal. Last week I did a "gammon" tea and a couple of days later we had bacon and egg for lunch, using up the thinner pieces.0

Me too. It's a hunter-gatherer thing.
At 80p for 500g, usually a little bit more, it's great VFM. However, it's not available in all stores and the supply can, understandably, be a bit sporadic at times. Sometimes, you get lucky and some of the packs contain smoked bacon. I suspect that some people may not buy it because it looks "funny". Their loss, my gain.
ASDA do exactly the same product but, in my area, only the Bristol Patchway store stocks it.
PS. I've just found some in ASDA Bristol Bedminster. I can't recall them ever having it before. Thank goodness it was next to the gammon steaks I was looking for.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I usually get a similar pack from Heron frozen foods.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

as I live alone I buy this and divide it up into three portions and wrap and freeze it .When two of my small grandsons are arriving after school I have always enough in a portion to knock them up a bacon buttie and they love it Great stuff for butties or even a portion will go nicely into a quiche or even pasta.I like to chop it up and cook to a crisp for pasta and it tastes delicious.0

I buy mine in Asda and find as you say its rather hit and miss so if I do find a a new box I sort through and buy several packs, they freeze fine.Slimming World at target0 -
I pick through the Morrisons packs of cooking bacon. They are brilliant value and when I find the smoked ones that are mainly rashers then I really stock up the freezer.
Sadly much harder to come by than before. Only get it in mine every few weeks.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250
