cannot access https after upgrade

Hi all,
My mum's anti virus ran out and she upgraded to a new one (three initials with a "v" and a "g" in them i think).

However something somewhere has changed as she can no longer access any https page. All http ones are fine though. Sounds like something in the security settings has changed but she and I cannot figure out what it is. Tried loads but just not the right one.

She has an old box that has XP Home installed on it. It runs the windows firewall.

Any ideas that will save usa trip to the PC Shop this weekend?

Thanks.

Did she fully remove the previous anti-virus before installing the new one? Only one package should be installed.

    Try this:

Start > Run then enter each of these lines in turn and then press enter

    regsvr32 softpub.dll
    regsvr32 wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 initpki.dll
    regsvr32 dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

All of them suceeded. I have now seen the PC for myself - it is a AVG free edition, totally up to date. The previous AV was Norton and it ran out. She telle me that this problem started before she installed the AVG.

Having seen it for myself it is bemusing - you go to say yourhttp bank page and hit the log ing - you get the warning about moving from unsecure to secure and then the https page ought to come up but it is totally blank.

I tried the IE add on called "network diagnostic for windows XP" and it says it can successfully connect to http https ftp no problems at all.

    I am struggling here...

Hmmm, just got the error message box saying Could not find the file flash.ocx

Not sure if that was from running the various commnads on the .dlls or not and it may have taken ages to come back or else form hitting the download button on the Norton page or indeed both.

Will have to fire up another PC to get the Norton uninstall stuff and copy it over.
Thanks for suggestions though, will let you know how I get on.

Yes that is exactly what it was, ran the uninstall, rebooted to be sure, and got into https.

Thanks for help - saved a trip to PC World :-)
