Festival Tips Wanted!

Hi, I am going to T in the Park (tickets are a present). I have never been to a festival but am imagening it will be an expensive weekend.

Any money saving tips would be greatly appreciated, either about the camping or eating in the festival etc.

Thanks.

When we go to festivals we: -

Take a cool box, fill it with ice and take drinks, milk, cheese, etc with us. We take a loaf of bread, pasta n sauces, etc. Bring lots of food! Just because if you buy food and drink there you will pay maximum prices. (also make sure you take your cool box in your tent at night - incase someone takes a fancy to it)!

Normally they do not allow glass bottles so i always stuff a bottle of rum down the middle of my sleeping bag (they never check there) and bring coke so i can alway have rum and coke. I also take a couple of plastic bottles and make up a couple of rum and cokes then stuff it down the back of my pants and tie my jumper round my waist so I don't have to pay for drinks where the bands are!!

I know they don't allow this, but if the prices weren't so ridiculous people wouldn't do it!

    Have a great time!!

Not as much moneysaving tips but tips none the less! I've been to T before and I would advise you to take a padlock for your tent. When you padlock the zips together tuck in out of site.

Also don't pitch your tent anywhere near the toilets or the burger vans/takeaways! You'll realise why at the end of the weekend!

If you have an inflateable lilo, take it with you. The camping fields are so sore on the back as cows have been trampling over the ground. They do sell them there but like everything else, the prices are over inflated (excuse the pun).

    ps. You'll love it!!!

I went to T a couple of years back and i really liked it compared to Oxegen! Bringing your own food and alcohol is advisable as you can pay upto £4 per pint and spend donkeys in the queue at the bar. Dont forget babywipes (invaluable!!) and about 4 more loo rolls than you think you will actually need.

Also dont camp near the fence, drug dealers (and people on drugs!) tend to jump the fence and they tried to take over our tent/camping area.

Oh yeah, and dont have sex in your tent with the light on, people outside will see EXACTLY what you're up to.... :rotfl:

Do not padlock your tent! People will then assume you've got valuables in it and will cut it with a sharp knife. If they're the type of people who went to the festival just to steal stuff, they're the type of person who will have one.

Result: stolen valuables if you were stupid enough to leave them in the tent, and nowhere to sleep at night.

My kids are going to Download again this year and they take Immodium while they are there so they don't need to go to the loo quite so often! A cool box with ice to keep milk etc in is OK until the ice melts in the heat and the stuff still goes off. Suggest powdered milk and use bottled water!

Thank for all the advise. I would never have thought of bringing Immodium!! Do people wear bumbags (how 80s!) to carry thier stuff around in when inside the main arena? Or do people have rucksacks or just go back to the tents for lunch, jumpers etc?

    Cheers!!

you won't be allowed to take food into the arena - only the campsite - so yes you will need to go back to tents for lunch.. or buy on site.. I generally take a small over shoulder bag for money and phone and small packed brolly. hoodies tied around waist are a good plan too - something to sit on or wear when it gets colder in the evening..
