Motorcycle accident - Advice needed

Ahh, "specialist ambulance chaser" then.Portly_Pig wrote: »Not necessarily, ones that understand bikes and don't ask if the rider was wearing a seatbelt.
By the sound of things, the blame should be split betwee the rider and whoever "trained" her.0 -
I've seen too many of these "hit and run" threads to take them at face value.

If the thread is genuine then I have sympathy for the sister but the accident appears to be her own fault and for a family member to start thinking about chasing compensation within hours strikes me as rather odd.
My opinion, others may disagree.
Agreed :T
If that was me I'd put it down to experience and move on, without looking for someone else to foot the bill for the damage ...0 -
By "specialist", I assume you mean "ambulance chaser".
If you term "ambulance chaser" to mean injury lawyer along with the rest of the Daily Mail readership then, "yes".
The "ambulance chaser" remarks always make me laugh. Yeah there are some cowboy outfits out there and TV and radio advertising is annoying, but are you telling me that if you lost an arm or a leg in a RTA you'd doft your cap and say "that's alright, I can manage with the one arm guv'nor"?0 -
If it was my fault. Yes of course.BertTheRaccoon wrote: »If you term "ambulance chaser" to mean injury lawyer along with the rest of the Daily Mail readership then, "yes".

And I speak as a biker who did fall off a few times when young and stupid.0 -
How any one can make a fault decision on the basis of a short paragraph is beyond me.
"she was riding home and turned slightly wide around a tight, blind corner and clipped a car coming around the bend. "
how wide ?
left or right?
how fast was she?
how fast was the car?
where on the road was a the car?
there would probably be 20-30 more questions.
You would probably get better help on this or other (biking) forums asking by for advice/ dealings with solicitors on such issues.
And that is the real issue 'get propper' advice.
My daughter had a bike = car collision and we went to a 'bike friendly' solicitors and IMHO they where crap! So do your homework!
She eventually go a 'no fault 50/50' settlement

Portly_Pig wrote: »So who do you suggest claiming off when it's your fault?
There isn't anybody to claim off when it is your own fault, but as I have said from my first post on this thread, the OP (or rather his sister) needs to take proper advice, rather than from persons with good intentions, but perhaps misguided, on a forum for saving a few quid and counting up Quidco vouchers.
As also outlined on a subsequent post by another member, there isn't sufficient info to make a total judgment call in the original post. Assumptions can be made, but that's the best that can be achieved and the outcome of the "advice" may not be correct or appropriate.
If does sound like the rider was taking a left corner and with lack of experience has washed wide (instead of just committing and tipping it into the corner) and come into conflict with the driver side of the oncoming car, but that's my assumption. Certainly there isn't enough info to tell someone they have no chance and rather than drag it out on here, it is in the rider's best interests to seek proper legal advice.0 -
The OP hasn't logged onto MSE since he joined and started this thread four days ago.
I suppose it is possible that he is viewing and reading without logging on but it is rather odd that he hasn't posted any updates or comments..0 -
Would anyone really join a forum, invent a fictitious story to generate discussion, and then walk away?
Don't answer that ...
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
I've seen it happen many times on MSE, usually about benefit claimants, insurance frauds, claiming compensation and other issues that tend to provoke strong reactions and polarised opinions.
It is a regular occurrence on other forums too.
One can never be certain about any one individual such as the OP of this thread, but it is a common and widely recognised phenomenon on forums worldwide.0 -
His sister might be unwell?0
