The reason people are getting annoyed is because they think

"If you don’t want to pay for your care, then why should we? We’ve worked hard all our lives as well."

    And when your signature reads

Food banks are a sign of breakdown in a modern society..Prepare for people fighting back..

By trying to pay as little as possible (which you are entitled to do) for the care you will receive, you are part of the reason we need food banks, as there is only so much money for the government to spend.

Its the same reason Jimmy Carr got in trouble, he broke no laws but was morally wrong.

I don't make a habit of judging people but op had this reaction coming.

The state is not a bottomless pit of money. The resources are there to protect and support people who can't support themselves, not a nice mum and dad who think its okay to defraud the state because they can, let's face it that's exactly what they are doing, even if they find a legal way of doing it.

I have a nice mum and dad who worked hard to pay for their beautiful home, it's not my money it's for them to enjoy until their time to go. As a pp said, there's so much more choice out there for care services when you pick up the bill yourself.

I think anyone who takes this approach should be ashamed of themselves and this is the wake up call that op needs. Attitudes need to change or these resources will be removed by the government and will not be available for ANYONE.

And breath. Working for the NHS I see services stretched to breaking point, 99% of my patients are elderly and I have lost count of the patients who stay over and above what they need to because social services can't support them on discharge and they stay with us (sometimes for months) until SS can make safe arrangements.

Maybe I should quit my 3 jobs and live off the state with my 2 children, morally it's wrong but the system lets me so should I? NO, because I have pride, self worth and I support myself.

I think you and the other posters who have only been judgemental and not answered the OP's question are missing the point.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion but expressing it on this forum is not what it was set up for.

The whole system of state funding is a mess. This is only one small part of it. But it is what it is.

Personally I think no one should recieve CB for more than 2 children.
Personally I think tax credits should be abolished and everyone paid a living wage.
Pesonally I think OAPs' benefits like the Winter Fuel Allowance should be means tested.

I could go on and on about the unfairness of many things in our lives.

However, I try to put these to one side when I am helping people on these forums. Yes, I have to bite my tongue and stop myself from writing - 'get a job, you scrounger, these are my taxes you are using, why did you have so many children?

If you cannot resist from making judgemental comments then you are best to stop taking part and join the discussion forum instead.

I get so fed up with threads turning into a rant about how immoral other people are and how whiter than white the ranters are.

    Life's unfair. Full stop.

It's a public open forum where I am free to express my opinion as I wish. The point needed making, end of. If you don't like where this thread is heading, maybe you need to stop taking part. I've never proclaimed to be whiter than white, far from it, the only person professing to what you accuse is yourself.

OPs outrageous intentions directly effects the industry I work in, it needs to be said. I wouldn't help or give assistance to this question if I could, I would rather use my energy on someone or something more deserving.

Hopefully the judgmental comments act as a sharp wake up call to op who will do the right thing.

Last year I was helping an eighty year old client who was being evicted from her home as she had signed it over to her daughter ten years earlier when her husband died, so that care home fees could be avoided.

Sadly her daughter died last year aged only 50, and her SIL has evicted her from the house as it now belongs to him, and he wants to sell it.

Please consider all angles carefully before doing something that may have serious unintended consequences.

A case of 'Just Deserts' here I think.

Well, I could agree with you, but my client was devastated, she thought that she had a good relationship with her son in law, and it had been her home since she had married. They wernt a wealthy family, just badly advised.

I wish that there had been more that I could do to help, but unfortunately, no one had realised that this was a possible outcome.

Put the care home situation into perspective anyway. Of all the people you know, how many ended up living for years in a nursing or care home before passing away?

There is only a small percentage of people for whom this route is required. The liklihood of both husband and wife requiring care is even less. And if there is a surviving spouse still living in the property they will not require you to sell up for the costs of care.

I'm not sure that's a good indicator as the care situation is changing rapidly; it's a given that in the UK we're generally living longer so it stands to reason more and more of us will require care in the future.

The Royal College of Nursing estimates that 1.7 million of us will need care services in a little over ten years time... I don't know how many of those would actually require a care home but clearly the numbers are not insignificant.

I wouldn't bet on that still being the case in 10 years time when there's even less money about to spend on the ageing population.
