Hi
We are due to complete on our house on Friday and are moving in on the same day. We have already arranged a removal company.
Luckily we are renting from a friend and a friend is moving into the flat so collecting post wont be a massive problem, but we have made a long list of people that we need to inform that we are moving.
We have arranged for TV and Broadband to be installed within a couple of days of moving in.
We are planning on taking meter readings as soon as we get the keys (we plan on taking photos). We are also going to change the locks on the back and front door over the weekend
Is there anything obvious that we need to do either in the next couple of days or quite quickly after we have completed
Also EA have told us that because of data protection they can't provide forwarding address or phone numbers for the vendor. What do we do if we get post for her etc. (I'm assuming if we have any problems that we will go through solicitors and get hold of her that way)

Many congratulations and wish you the best of luck in your new home. Every time I have moved I have paid the Post Office for redirection of my post. Although you think at the time you have notified everyone there is always some one you have missed. If the previous owner does not or has not paid for her post to be re-directed you can cross out the name and address and write "Not known at this address - please return to sender". Her post is not your responsibility.
Sounds like you have everything else covered! Make sure you have house insurance from the day you move in.0 -

We have building and contents cover sorted. We were advised to have this set up from the date of exchange of contractsNow buying our second house:

Congratulations!
I am due to complete on Thursday. But won't be moving in until Friday. I have until the 30th in my rented flat so it gives me a bit of time to do a proper clean once it's empty.
Luckily the only people I need to contact with a change of address are utilities, council, DVLA and Sky. Everything else is still registered at my parents house even though I haven't lived there for 3 and a half years.Starting mortgage balance 22/04/2013 £71,250
Overpayments to date £410
Current mortgage balance £70,6500 -
We currently have a slightly complex set of mail redirects set up as our previous previous address still gets some stuff that should have been changed and through our error or theirs, perhaps hasn't been.
Our vendors did a redirect for 6 months but that now seems to have lapsed and all post is getting labelled 'return to sender, no longer at this address, please remove from mail list' Which is a mighty pain to be honest0 -
We're completing on Friday too! We have two months left in our rental, so it's not quite so urgent for redirecting mail, etc, but it's just as exciting. Good luck for your move!0

i completed a month ago. I certainly wouldnt recommend moving in on the same day though. have you got much to move? i didnt end up getting the keys til about 4pm and still had a week and half left on my tenancy so decided to move bit by bit in my car, then had a removal van the day before my tenancy officially ended. The extra time really helped, not sure how i would have managed without it.
Have you been given a definite time you will be getting the keys? Otherwise you may find you have a removal company hanging around and charging you for the time.An opinion is just that..... An opinion0
