Echo what Racer says about a spending diary, when you see how much you have spent on - whatever unecessary thing is your particular weakness
Tell you what, I spend £200 a month less on lattes now!!!
Glad it wasnt just me going this. Its madnes how it adds up. Even with just one cup a day you still spend nealry £50 a month if you go to Starbucks or Pret. £200 a month, £2400 a year just on Coffee!! :eek:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

Click on the "User CP" link towards the top of the page and then in the "Control Panel" at the left of the page, chose "Edit Signature". While you're in there you might want to create a profile and also go to the "options" bit and choose "show avatars".
p.s. Will DFW ladies please stop PMing me, it was just a joke, I'm not really doing escort work!!

Crown, I'll confess, when I say £200 a month, I mean, bare minimum £200, and let's be honest, most months it was nearer £400, and some months it was more. I tell you something else, I sleep much better now, and not just because I should (no, I WILL) be debt free next year, but I think all that caffeine was playing havoc with me!
Sorry to nick your thread a bit MM, but back on topic, really, it was 'only' a couple of quid - each - and what's a couple of quid? Nothing much, but add it up, and it means a debt free date so far in the future I doubted I would live to see it, or debt free next year! (Obviously it wasn't just lattes that I was frittering on!).
Don't be too hard on yourself though, I'm sure most of us slip up now and again - I do - but don't let that spiral into thoughts of 'oh I've spent £20, I may as well spend £200', just think, oh well, it's done, it's spent, but I'm not doing it again.0 -
Hi MM :hello:
I was in a kinda similar position when I had my LBM - I was meeting minimum payments fine, and didn't even really bother keeping track of my money - it was only reading an article sayign that my bank were going to be clamping down on people who lived permanently in their overdrafts (me!) that I realised I HAD to do something.
Motivation works differently for different people, so have a look at onedayiwill's list & see if there's something there that strikes a chord with you.
Good luck, and welcome to DFW!Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

One and all,
Thanks for all your help and support. My light if flickering alright and i will put a sig on ASAP and i think a SOA will help too.
I cant get on here very much as not too much time while at work but will do my best and try and update in evening when home.
I have just set up a DD to go straight into savings account day after i get paid, as this will help me see what i REALLY have left for essentials each month and not fritter it away.
I also think i will try to explore my issues with spending, as i do feel it is related to issues of my self esteem and also issues with money passed on from my lovely mum and dad...
I need to explore this further and maybe even talk to friends about it who would never ever guess i had these feelings i am pretty confident, happy etc.....and feel that if people knew my real situation they would support me when i say i cant come out/go on holiday etc
I am trying to face my bid debts and i do know they wont go away. Lets hope that this is my first day as a DFW!!My OH is also on the case.
Thanks again, i truly appreciate all your comments
Have a lovely weekend;)
