Leeds Fail

Options
I put together a beautiful package for the Leeds Building Society, including the application form for their Online Bonus ISA, a cheque and a couple of ISA transfer forms.

They found the cheque and told me that they haven't received the rest. Despite this, one of the transfers has already gone through, so I assume they're processing the other as well.

I tried to point out that, logically, if they have the cheque and the two transfer forms then they have the application form as well, as it was all in the same sealed A5 envelope, but I was beating my head against a brick wall. "We have not received your application form" was their mantra.

The Leeds Building Society has gone to the top of my Avoid list. Unfortunately I'm now committed for a year. I never had this problem with Santander.

Committed for a year to what?

If it's within 14 days, you may cancel the account, although I am not sure how that works with transfers.

Beyond 14 days, transfer the ISA somewhere else?

Also if they're processing the transfers, they must have opened your account else where are they putting the money.

Exactly. Sounds like an argument over semantics.

Given the feedback on the Leeds BS ISA over on the ISA board, and based on my own experience with them, I don't believe they are any worse than any of the other cash ISA providers.

I've not had a bad experience with them either.

Application online 6th, IDd fine. Posted off forms, cheque and four transfer forms.

As of today, cheque has been deposited without a problem. One of the four transfers has also deposited (from Barclays).

The three ISAs being transferred from Santander are a different story. I know Santander have had the forms, because slowly the ISA balances changed to include interest earlier in the week, then slowly each has vanished from internet banking.

From a purely OCD point of view, I am now happy to have one ISA and not four! (Santander would never let me transfer old ISAs with them in to a new ISA, despite external transfers being OK. They insisted they just upgrade my existing ISA to the same terms as the new).

Anyway, now I am back to having no dealings with Barclays at all, and only a single savings account with the Spanish lot, and if it wasn't 2.8% which I can't find anywhere else it'd be out of there too!

Indeed Leeds BS is not alone. I had one ISA transfer from the Halifax delayed because it claimed not to have all the information. The information that they claimed to be lacking was on the reverse of the transfer form! I assume that someone was supposed to scan the documents and didn't do it properly.

As for the Leeds I am disappointed with it because I had funds ready for this year's ISA available in an instant access online account. Having applied online for the ISA the account could only be opened by printing out a form and posting it off with a cheque (funds being transferred to my current account first). How much simpler to allow existing customers to open an account with funds already with the BS. The cheque has yet to clear though Leeds does say that interest will be calculated from the date that my signed application was received.

I hate when companies act like that....

You should probably raise a formal complaint with them and FIGHT!!! Would do everything NOT to become their client after something like this...

    Good luck!
