Late payment charges.

I have a mail order catalogue and normally pay on line each month. Sometimes I am near payment time when I get to pay it. My bank does faster payments and the catalogue accepts faster payments so why am I still charged a late payment fee when my money is in their account before the due date. Are they allowed to charge this fee?

Does it actually say it's a late fee, it might just be an interest charge?

So why not just pay well in time and avoid such silliness? You know when you will be paid, you know when the payments are due, you know the terms of when the payments are expected. Stop cutting it fine and just pay in time. A lot less hassle.

You're paying an enormous premium for catalogue prices in the first place. Why pay even more unnecessarily? What high-paying interest account are you using that makes it worthwhile to keep the money in place for an extra day or four?

What do the terms and conditions of the catalogue say?

Did you transfer the money during a typical working day and during working hours? Did you allow sufficient time for them to process the payment?

The fact that the money has been debited to your account does not mean it has been processed by the catalogue people at the same time.

To avoid future charges set up a direct debit for the minimum payment.
