in Credit cards
Just had to have a little rant. Last weekend I decided to try my luck with a Sainsburys Nectar credit card. I know it's run by Halifax and I have no great love for them, but we do the bulk of our shopping at Sainsburys, especially now the missus works there.
I went through their online application and when I got to the last page, that should have given me the decision, I just got a blank page with a 'finish' button at the bottom. I left it till Wednesday, to see if anything came through, at which point I called them and they told me there was no sign of an application and that I should try it again. Did that and the same happened again.
Fair enough, didn't want to go through the application a third time for it to go nowhere, so I applied for the Amazon MNBA card instead and got accepted.
Yesterday I got a letter through from Sainsburys to tell me one of my non-exhistant applications has been successful, sign here and your card will be on the way. As I do want the card, I'm going to send it back, though this means I will have 4 credit cards now. I think I'm going to have to close my Halifax CC as that has a stupidly high limit on it of 3750 pounds and a very unfriendly APR for a prime card.
I might have to close my Capital One Progress card, as I'm affraid having so many cards might put off future lenders and we'll probably be in the market for a mortgage in about a year. Would having 3 cards hurt? I like the progress card as it only has a 500 pounds limit, so I use it for online transactions on sites I don't fully trust.
Guess I'll have to consider this a success story, as 2 years ago only Cap One and Vanquis types would touch me due to lack of credit history (I moved to the UK from the Netherlands), now I've got prime lenders fighting over me.
No real moral to the story, I just needed a rant about it :rotfl:

That limit is really very high, limits of two to three times that are perfectly normal. This shouldn't hurt you really, arguably a wasted credit search on your file but not a problem if things remain stable for a few months.
Many people have multiple cards for benefits.
However if you are on a dodgy website I wouldn't put my card details in, small limit or not.0 -
Not 'dodgy' as such, but usually sites I haven't used before. I have no need to use dodgy sites. I'll leave that to my wife who wins a holiday one minute and finds her bank account emptied the next, but that's an old story for another time0
