The correct process surely is to try and respond to the OP with an answer to the original question, and everyone is perfectly entitled to their opinion and an opportunity to point out any potential flaws, drawbacks or risks in the preferred option

That would be the correct way to ue a forum - however this thread has gone to extreme levels of name calling and suggestion that I verbally abuse my daughter. Far far from the purpose of any question I asked originally, totally unecassary, spiteful and bang out of order.

Yes I agree my language may have been a little curt and I shouldn't have been so personal, so I'm not going to to put the boot in any more. Besides it seems like the message is finally sinking in with the OP, let us just hope that he/she can now drum a bit of common sense into her daughter.

What message ??????????????? She will spend her earnings on what she wants, and if you dont like her choice tough luck. Ihave no intention of dictating to my daughter how she spends her money.

My daughter has more common sense, integrity and manners than I have seen you exercise.

you can get a brand new car thats done less than an hundred miles as a used car a lot cheaper than rushing out to buy a new one.

Purely out of curiosity because I would only buy a new car if I could do so with cash and that is years away - how do cars with such small mileage come to be available?

They are ex demo I think and tend to be like the focus/fiesta/astras, can't find the small ones with the same offer on. I bought mine that had been the focus that the ford garage used with 4000 on the clock, 6 months old for £10,500. I was looking at a 6 month old fiesta with 1800 miles and it was £11,500 as opposed to around £16K new. Ive seen bargains on vauxhalls as well so assume most manufacturers do them.

OP, suggest to your daughter that she enquires about cars with "delivery mileage", they are a good way of getting a 99.9% new car, with a decent saving.

When I bought my Corsa 4 years ago, I got £1300 off the price of a totally brand new, identical car. The only difference was my vehicle had 36 miles on the clock and had been sitting at the dealership for a few weeks.

Also make sure she haggles to get a full tank of petrol and a mud guard / floor mat pack thrown in (they usually try to charge £50-£100 for the latter) - they usually do so, if you ask.

All cars come with delivery mileage it's not. Special deal, there's no way you should be paying anywhere near full list price on any new car in any case. Going through brokers like broad speed can be a good option, they just haggle a deal based on their volumes, and you deal directly with a dealer after going through them.

Nope, delivery mileage cars are already sitting in the forecourt hence you are a bit limited in your choice of colour etc . a totally brand new car will have to be ordered and delivered especially to the dealership, just for you.

Most dealers will sell new cars for less than the list price as special deals of course, but you are not likely to be able to haggle much off the price of a new car that is on the windscreen - a tank of fuel and a few extras like floor mats is generally your lot.

Well agree to differ, you obviously think you've got a special deal and you're happy so that's fine.

Thanks for the patronising post.......but, why then, if you go on to the Arnold Clark website, are "delivery miles" cars, listed as "nearly new" and not "new"? and hence cheaper?

One of the reasons they are cheaper is that they have already "owned" by the garage, they don't come from the dealer directly to the buyer. You get a better deal becasue they have been sitting at the dealers for a while.
