Moving reasonable sum of money UK - Australia

Hi people 
I'm really hoping that someone can help me out or give some sound advice here. We currently have around £24k sitting in a bank back in the UK. We have been in Australia for over a year now and have finally decided that there is no point in it sitting over there doing nothing. What I am wondering is, what is the best, safest, and most cost effective way of getting this amount of money from there to here ? Obviously there is the simple bank transfer, but I am thinking there must be a better way to do it with larger sums of money ?
Any help/advice that you can offer would be gratefully received
