Car stolen-Made claim-No insurance premium refund

Hi
I hope someone can help...

We took out insurance (third party Fire and theft) on my old Mazda with the Post Office (£180) on Feb26th 2007.
It was stolen on 3 April, it was recovered written off, and the claim was made.
The Post office uses Premier as their insurer ( a nightmare to sort out-too much to get into here). The claim was eventually settled at the begginning of May 2007.

We wanted to cancel with them as the whole service with the Post Office and Premier was terrible, They said we can cancel but we would get non of the premium (£180) back.
We had to send off all the details to them plus all paperwork and we haven't got the terms and conditions of the policy to see if this is correct.

Surely as we only had cover for less than 3 months and the claim was not our fault-we should be entitled to some money back?
I know its not much but its worth a try.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

It's standard practice that you don't get a refund after a claim has been made. It would be better to transfer the insurance to any replacement vehicle for the remainder of the policy year, then consider a change of insurer at renewal.

Most insurance policies will not refund the premium if you had made a claim.

I did a google search and found this: http://www.2u.co.uk/mobile-phone-insurance/insurance_terms_and_conditions.html

Ok - it may not be your insurance provider and its its to do with mobiles as oppose to cars but if you see from this paragraph below most insurance providers will quote the same in any insurance you undertake.

    5. We may cancel the policy by giving you 30 days notice in writing. In the event of any claim you are responsible for the payment of any outstanding premium.

No sensible Insurer will give a refund if they have paid out for a claim when there is no chance of recovery.

Once a total loss occurs, some policies will immediately cease and if you wanted to insure a new car, you would have to take out a totally new insurance. If after paying for a total loss, your Insurer agrees to let you put another car on the same policy (Automatic Reinstatement, I think it's called), then snatch their hand off and do it.

Sooooo annoying that the theft wasn't your fault, but then again - it wasn't your Insurer's fault either!!

    Good luck.

Because the claim was a theft claim, it is a fault claim. Fault however doesn't refer to the person who caused the claim, it refers to the person whose insurer paid for the damage. So in this case, it is classed as a fault claim.
