I've recently received 2 flyers; offering Free Boilers/Insulation...
But it doesn't add up.
The email on the leaflets is different from their webpages emails, and their webpages have spelling mistakes.
It seems like a scam to me!
Check it out - something is fishy to me. I'm NOT selling, rather, I'd like these dodgy firms outed!

These stink of being scam artists. I tried to email the top one, but my email bounced..the second one seems even more dodgy. Am I right to be aware? Or are they offering a great service, even though they can't spell, have lots of logos, saying they are a member of certain organisations, can they back that up?

The website for AtlanticConsulting looks legitimate to me. The site has been registered since 2010 and is registered to a Ltd company of the same name, which is registered at Companies House with the same address. I also clicked on one of the logos (NICEIC) and did a postcode search on their and they came up at the same address/phone number. However if the flyer is directing you to a different email address then I would be wary.
The energysavingfund.net site I wouldn't trust. The site is registered using a privacy protection service and has no details on it of who you are dealing with.
If you were in the market for a free boiler/insulation, then I would be tempted to contact Atlantic using the the details on their site.
What are the email addresses that the flyers have given and do they give phone numbers?0 -
I am in agreement with gb here. Could also be the "company" who posted their flyer through the door are pertaining to be the companies listed on the flyer but are infact not trying to give an air of authenticity.
As asked what are the email addresses on the flyers?0 -
I threw the flyers away, after further research, but managed to retain them before big bin day!
Atlantic - email eco3@atlanticcontracting.co.uk; tel no. 01942 212907 or 0333 200 4044 (Please research these before using, I suspect a scam, as email bounce);
www.atlanticcontracting.co.uk - the one with all the logos, that the above poster stated were legit and matched up..and I have more faith in, but still spell incorrectly on their website??Hmm!
The other one that I suspect is more suspect, and has a cheaper looking flyer, less info, and more offers ie Window and door replacement, Electrical rewires, and boiler replacements, and now includes roofing; I've never heard of these offers from the Government, the flyer looks dodgy, it lists an 0808 141 5479 HELPLINE number, but the terminology of the text And how its worded...(ie How I just wrote badly on purpose! - That is how they spell their flyers!)
Private sector funded; Installations carried out by; Approved installers only

I 'hope', I can clarify between the quotes from the flyers, my rambling, and the data given. Please to anyone - DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS, THIS WEBSITE DOES THAT AUTOMATICALLY..
ONLY click those links in a Sandbox, as I have my fears, especially the latter one.
If you ring the local number - 01942 for Wigan - the 212907 seems like a long established BT number, but Cable rule these areas for years, not many BT numbers in this area.0 -
Atlantic - email eco3@atlanticcontracting.co.uk; tel no. 01942 212907 or 0333 200 4044 (Please research these before using, I suspect a scam, as email bounce);

The domain of the email matches that website (the eco3 part will be used to track responses - hence not matching the address on the site), and the phone numbers match those on the site and on the NICEIC register, so I would still think that this is legitimate.
As for the spelling, it is a sad fact that some businesses just don't pay attention to what they produce in the way of marketing material.The other one that I suspect is more suspect, and has a cheaper looking flyer, less info, and more offers ie Window and door replacement, Electrical rewires, and boiler replacements, and now includes roofing; I've never heard of these offers from the Government, the flyer looks dodgy, it lists an 0808 141 5479 HELPLINE number, but the terminology of the text And how its worded...(ie How I just wrote badly on purpose! - That is how they spell their flyers!)
The phone number doesn't match the one given on the website (but is only one digit different) - this could be a means of tracking responses or it could be a way of piggybacking on the name of the existing website.
But as I said in my other post - there is no indication on the website of who you are dealing with and the site registrant is hidden.0 -
So, it has been decided at least one very dodgy, the other, a maybe; that these companies are dodgy, or need investigating further..But many people would see that as a potential scam; 'Phone numbers not matching up, and mis-spelt webpages alert!'; so how do you either call them out? And prove they are frauds of not, or go with the work, then find you have been scammed?
I've not invoked any logistical communication to any of these companies, I've sent an email, that bounced to the most plausable one, asking why they misspell on their website...
It's just heresay isn't it? Flyer not matching up with details on the website, website spelt incorrectly.....hmm!
I'm told by a bloke down the market that all Goverment reclamation on taxes has ended, and that is why free energy saving bulbs isn't a given.
So Where and Why have these companies sprung up from? Deals from the Government that have been cancelled???????
Sounds like a bandwagon approaching!0 -
thanks for this info as we have just received the same flyers in the L34 /35 areas and we were very suspicious of the claims on them. ................
I do Know that ECO grants are available for free Boilers and Insulation and would be willing to share the info to prevent anyone being scammed ...........0 -
This outfit are offering grants on all sorts of home improvements in the Greater Glasgow and South West of Scotland areas but they have now graduated to advertising in our major Scottish newspapers (which I'm sure is cheaper than leafleting for them) but also worrying as they reach a potential audience in the hundreds of thousands.0
