Housing association bathroom not adequate?

Hi, I don't know if I am posting this in the right area or not but hoping someone can help!

Basically I rent my house from a LHA, when I moved into the house the bathroom consisted of a wetroom, which in my opinion is not well at all, in fact it is a death trap. The floor is a complete hazard when it is wet, I have tried several different non slip mats yet still have had many falls, also the floor floods quite often, i have had to replace the carpet outside the door twice now because of it seeping through.
Also I am now 18 weeks pregnant, and it is obviously not good for a baby, the floor isn't level enough to place a baby bath on properly etc, and also I keep falling over because there is no grip on the floor.
I have spoken to the housing association I rent from and they have said that the bathroom isn't due to be changed so they won't help, I keep asking for someone to come and look yet i am always told I will get a call but nothing ever happens.

Do I have a leg to stand on as obviously the bathroom isn't suitable at all, and is rather dangerous. I can't afford to replace the bathroom myself, is there anybody I can speak to about it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Perhaps make contact with your local councillor.

Why will this help? The property is rented from a Housing Association, not the council.

They must have a formal complaints procedure. Perhaps that should be your next port of call in terms of getting a proper inspection and response.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Because councillors sometimes have a bit of clout when they deal with housing associations, well they do where I work anyway - so do MP's!

Try Environmental Health at the local council. What matting are you trying, maybe get something designed for around swimming pools? Are you formally reporting (ie. in writing) EVERY flood and EVERY fall?

If you don't like it, just move.

I would say not since you have fallen over.

I'm afraid this is to some extent the nature of wetrooms.

I can't believe that several not-slip mats would not make it safer.

As for it flooding the carpet outside, is the drain partially blocked? Have you tried either dismantling it to clean (if there is access), or using a cleaner?
  • you say there was a wetroom when you moved in - therefore you accepted the property as it was, and now your wanting them to change it?

I would suggest moving tbh. However the water certainly shouldn't be seeping through into another room.
An opinion is just that..... An opinion

I think you may have to sort this out yourself, unlikely that the HA will alter it as they do not see it as essential work. The wetroom would have been built to their usual standard as most work with same materials on all properties so your floor etc would be the same as other homes with wetrooms.

    Things I would suggest are
    .Keep perstering the HA
.ask if you could install your own bath/tiles then save for it (also labour/plumber).
.put something down on the floor between wetroom and carpet ie rolled up towels.
.use more non slip mats, add some more handrails to room.
.ask to transfer to another property.

With being pregnant and risk of falls I would get more mats and handrails asap once baby is born they can have a bath in a washing up bowl/baby bath etc for a while and it doesnt have to be in the wetroom.

    Good luck.

....Op how long have you been in your house is it since 2011 and have you disability Im asking as this might be whats influencing the decision by HA not to do anything....
