Fridge too cold!!

Hi all

We have an American 2 door Armana Fridge Freezer which we have had for less than a year.

The other day the electrics went (this affected everyone in our street) and therefore the fridge was not working.

It took about 8 hours for the electrics to be restored and since then my fridge compartment is freezing all the food. The freezer is working fine and I have tried to increase the temp on the fridge but it still freezes all the food. Can anyone help in identifying what the cause might be and what I need to do.

I can just call the people who we bought the item off as it is still under warranty but they won't come out till next week and so we can't even have any food in the fridge.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

    Hi poppyroberta,

It's liable to be either a stat problem or an air flap problem, I'm not so familiar with the newer Armana machines TBH, but if it's under warranty I'd leave well alone. At a guess though the machine was defrosting, water has gotten into the air flap between teh fridge and freezer and jammed it so you're getting too much cold air in the fridge.

    Just a guess of course.

Thank you for the above. I have called the store where we bought the fridge and they are going to come out on Monday which means no food in fridge until then.

They said even though the fridge is under warranty I may have to pay if the fault lies in a power surge or something. I told them we lost the electrics for a few hours (DOH has gone mad at me for telling them that!!!).

Anyway, because the electric went according to them this may have blown the circuit!!!!!!!!!!! (bit worrying if the power goes then the fridge just packs up). Therefore if the fault is due to the electrics going I foot the bill. Not sure what to make of that but will wait until Monday and see what the engineer has to say.

In the meantime I have now had to throw out over £100 worth of food out of the fridge and bin it!! Not sure if I can claim this back off the electric company or not. I know that the T&C's in respect of fridge state that the loss of any food is not covered. I so wish I had not stocked up ah well will need to moneysave elsewhere this week.

Well here's a tip for you, don't give the engineer any hassles and offer a cuppa and a biscuit. ;)

What he says caused the fault is liable to stick and usually when customers are nice we all have a habit of not being able to attribute the cause of failure to anything, meaning that the customer doesn't end up with a bill. Usually all the third party service guys are the same, we don't really want to charge people under warranty but manufacturers have some really stupid rules at times.

It doesn't always work, manufacturers aren't stupid and, like us, they can often be pretty certain of the cause just from the fault description, but it's worth a shot.

Could you claim under household insurance? Ours cover food lost if a fridge/freezer breaksdown. Agree with the being *very* nice to the engineer.
