I have just sold an item of furniture on Ebay, yet despite me saying that I wanted cash on collection, the buyer has paid by Paypal. Obviously they think that I like paying commission for nothing.
However this presents a problem I'm sure others have an answer for, in that when the person takes the desk, they could then make a chargeback for their payment, and I have no record of them having received it, if they're a con artist.
How does Ebay/Paypal deal with such cases?

What is happening to the English Language? These are not isolated, but repeated every day.
'Definate', 'Aswell', 'Rediculous', 'Payed'...and the best of all 'Could Of'. How can anyone think that 'Could Of' can actually mean anything. You may as well write 'Could Zebra' for all the sense it makes.

Reverse the Paypal payment yourself. Google 'paypal on collection scam'. Insist the buyer pays cash on collection although this is difficult to enforce. Lots of threads on here giving advice on this one.0

As per Daveeed, listing with cash on collection is always a gamble- and sometimes you lose.
You have a 3 real choices
 A) go ahead and hope they are genuine buyers and don't chargeback later. refund them and try and negotiate cash on collection refund them and try and negotiate cash on collection
 C) Offer a mutual cancellation
The risk of A is the paypal on collection scam, the risks of B are that buyer refuses to repay and collect and leaves you negative feedback and makes a non performing seller complaint. Option B also leaves you with your FVFs to pay . Option C of course is a risk in that buyer can refuse and again that leaves you with fees to pay and a possible negI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Similar applies when on the odd occasion I have delivered the item myself as it's nearlby and in then I print out the invoice, mark it "Received by" & "at (address)" and ask them to print their name and sign it.0

That does absolutely no good at all and I suggest you might want to read the paypal terms and conditions again about fully tracked delivery and online proof.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've refunded the payment, with an accompanying message. If the buyer is genuine, I'm sure they will understand. If not, and I get negative feedback, what the heck, I'm probably almost done with selling on Ebay anyway, preferring Amazon for higher value items. What is happening to the English Language? Can I ask if you contacted the buyer first to explain why you where taking this action?

            Yes, I explained fully.
All's well that ends well. He said he'd made the Paypal payment out of habit, and has now collected and paid. What is happening to the English Language? These are not isolated, but repeated every day.
