Distance Learning A level English Literature

Just wondered if anyone has done any of the distance learning A level English Literature courses and if so what they thought of them?

There's no evening classes nearby that offer A2 level English Literature and I also like the idea of trying to do it in 1 year rather than 2 but there's very little independent review of such courses.

Had you thought of doing a course with the OU - A levels aren't that useful for mature students and you'll be able to take out a loan for the fees.
  • This is not a good idea to do English course from any distance education center...

    Choose any another option..

DON'T sign up for any distance A Level courses unless you have first found an examination centre that will accept independent candidates.

It isn't, sadly, as easy as it ought to be.

But not currently enrolling new students unfortunately.
  • Before uni, for one of my A Level courses, I did a distance learning English Literature A Level through Oxford Open Learning. It wasn't hard to find a local college that accepted me as an external candidate, although it's worth ringing round colleges in your area to check that you don't have to travel for miles to sit an exam.

I was very happy with the OOL course and my tutor was great. We used phone, email and snail mail to communicate and they were always prompt to reply. If for any reason you didn't get on with your assigned tutor, OOL are happy to assign you a different one. The course was quite expensive but I really enjoyed it!
