Tachograph - you will need to get one if......

I know this wont apply to the majority on here but for those who use a vehicle which is over 7 1/2 tons you will need a tachograph calibrated and working as from 11th april 2007.
This will apply even if you only use it for PRIVATE use. Im thinking along the lines of horse boxs, lorries used to carry vintage goods to shows, motor sprot vehicle transporters etc.
We had our lorry tested on 28th April, filled in the exemption form no problem (at a local DVLA testing station ) I have recently contacted VOSA who say "sorry" the testing station should never have passed it because the tacho wasnt calibrated.
VOSA are increasingly waiting at the gates of events and pulling vehicles over. (easy way to give you a ticket in my opinion) and checking for tachographs and that you are not using RED diesel ( you cant even use it in a vintage tractor or a donkey engine )
I also learned as from 31st December 2007 ANY vehicle over 7 1/2 ton will need a tacho fitted - if you run a vintage lorry please check your local VOSA office to see where you stand.
I know the majority wont understand what Im talking about but for the few who go to Vintage steam, tractor or country shows please check this out, you could get fined. VOSA have been onto 2 sites we have been at recently and are fining people, they seem to be targeting the vintage tractor owners who attend these events.
The government will end up killing off these kind of events with rules which shouldnt really apply to private individuals only companies.
Add another £50 -£60 cost for a tachograph calibration to your costs for this year plus a new tacho if you havnt one working.
