How to unblock my shower cubicle waste more

Options
In my bathroom I only have a shower cubicle (no bath) & whilst I regularly use a plunger, on the waste, & each time it seems to flow better it is not the case now.

So do I need a bigger plunger, or is there something easy I can pour down to make it work as it used to?

probably blocked with hair, soap scum build up. I usually pour half bottle bleach down every few weeks and this works for me.

Yes - yo can buy a bottle of sink unblocker at the supermarket. You just pour the lot down and wait 24 hours.

Wow two very very fast replies thanks.

I will ask my wife to take a look in our local Morrison's to see what they have. I had thought it may need a DIY go at it but something squirted down may do the trick. I can't do DIY anymore as my body is a bit crocked.

    You want caustic soda.

I find the most economical option is the dry granules which you then mix with water at home (be sure to follow the instructions, it's nasty stuff and gets hot) you can vary the strength from strong drain unblocker through to something weaker just to keep them clean.

Last time I was in Homebargains it was less than a £1 for a 500g pack of granules - a lot cheaper than the ready mixed drain unblockers from the supermarkets.

I'd get a pot of bicarb of soda and some white vinegar. I'd tip some bicarb down the plughole, then pour white vinegar down. It'll fizz a lot. No exact measurements exactly so I'd do it by eye/by volume of roughly the same volume of vinegar to bicarb.

Walk away and leave it for half an hour.

Boil a kettle. Pour the boiling water down the plughole.

    That usually sorts it out.

Total cost probably £1.20 and no nasty chemicals.

The problem is usually an accumulation of hair so you need chemicals that dissolve keratin -

:eek:Be careful what you use and how you use it:eek:

Some powerful chemical drain cleaners WILL take the colour out of certain materials, or stain them, AND are extrememly harzardous to humans:eek:

This is what you need, no messing around.
I get mine from Tesco I think, so I guess Morrison's will sell it too.
It's easier and less scary than using caustic, I always worry it'll melt the plastic pipes.

Most shower waste fittings lift out for cleaning. Have you done this?

Once you've lifted out all the removable parts for cleaning, THEN pour some drain cleaner down the pipe.

I was going to say the same. This should definitely be the first port of call.
