Youtube What am I doing wrong???

When I try to play a music video on youtube it is disjointed and jerky in both sound and picture.
I can listen to Radio Programmes clearly and my daughter buys music for her Ipod. I think I have downloaded adobe.com/shockwave to see if there is any improvement but there is not.
Is it because my Computer is 4 years old? I use Windows XP.
As you can tell I am not very technical but any help in simple terms would be most appreciated!
Thank You.

If you pause it at the start and leave it until the bar at the bottom turns red, that should help. It has to be buffered before you can watch it smoothly, whatever that means :)

  • What kind of internet connection do you have? The higher the speed of your connection the more quickly it will buffer and play more smoothly.

Excellent advice, the pause button is below the video, left hand corner looks somthing like this || (two lines next to each other) when u press it the video with stop .. wait for a few seconds/minutes or untill u see the bar below the video becoming more red than grey. Then press the the same button again this time it will be a arrow head > rather than two lines.

I do that all the time.

Pause it for a minute or 2 while it downloads the next parts of the movie (the downloaded bit will keep growing on the 'slider'), then when you click on play/unpause it will be able to playback the movie contunually untill it hits the bits it hasn't downloaded yet. When it is 'buffering'freezing/stopping' it is waiting for the next bit of streaming video By pausing you are allowing Internet Explorer to get a headtstart in downloading your content.

    Hope Im making sene! lol
