WiFi ereader, are they idiot proof?

Got a Sony PRS-300 from ebay to see whether I like it before buying a new ereader. Am getting on fine with it except I can't download ebooks on to it. Probably my fault as I'm not technically minded. Now if I up grade to a WiFi reader are they easy to put ebooks on, free ones if possible, don't want to get one and then find I can't do it.

Would be looking at Kobo or Sony, don't want to tie myself to Amazon with a Kindle, unless I can get free books.

there are plenty of free books both on amazon and elsewhere online which the kindle will read just fine.

I've had a Sony and still have a kobo and kindle fire, out of them all the kindle is by far the easiest to download books onto (directly with WiFi) my Sony didn't have WiFi but that was easy enough to work out, I've only used my kobos WiFi a few times, as I use it primarily for elibrary books which I download to my laptop and then transfer to my kobo.

I can't remember exactly with the Sony, but am sure you have to download Adobe digital editions (or at least register an account with them and pair up the ereader with it - all free to do.)

If you Google it you will Definately find more info on how to do this.
