Unauthorised overdraft charges fairness

Hi I am very disappointed currently with my bank natwest. I am currently self employed and due to current financial circumstances I am in irregular work. I have applied for an overdraft and am not being greedy just asking for 50 pounds as a buffer for direct debits, almost every month my bank charge me for them taking account fees. This puts me into a unauthorised overdraft they then charge me 6 pounds per day then unless my wages have been payed in they charge me again the following month surely this can't be right

Cancel the direct debits and pay your bills by other means at a time to suit you, ie when you have the money.
No more bank charges then (although you'll still be chased by your creditors obviously...and may still incur charges with them).0 -

The bank doesn't have to offer you an overdraft facility. Nor is it unreasonable for them to expect you to manage your account correctly. When you opened the account the T&C's would have been available.0 -
good advice yorkshire boy. worth following that kevross - banks follow responsible lending code, with your situation they wont offer you overdraft unfortunately.0

Hi guys Help needed. Had a bank account with halifax which had an overdraft of £150.00. Bank charges took this over my limit and they defaulted me which i only found out this January. The default dates back to 2010. Any suggestions as to which way to go with this. I requested SAR which had no mention of default which i requested, also they say they cant produce a true copy as it was computer generated.0

Yes phoned them and they say default was because i had been over my overdraft for a while even tho it was over by bank charges and they cant tell me under what section of the cca i defaulted. alsso there date of default they tell me is different to the one with experian by about 7 months.0

Why did you only find out some 3 years later?
Notifying the bank of your current address is your responsibility. So if post has gone astray that's your problem. As the bank has followed due process.0 -

So if you defaulted because your account was over the limit, wouldn't it be best to pay whats owed to satisfy the default ? Are you looking for a way to avoid paying ?0 -
From the details you have provided, the OD is unenforceable through court (ie unable to pursue for a CCJ). But the default WILL remain, even if satisfied, until its 6 anniversary of registration when it will expire from your credit records.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the replys. The account was paid off and closed in 2011. did not know had a default untill this year when i got my credit file. When i spoke to halifax they say the default date was for October 2010 yet on creit report it says March 2011. Default has been marked satisfied and only reason halifax has so far given is that it was over my agreed limit( even tho it was by charges) And cant provide a copy of default or tell what part of the credit act i have breached in order for them to issue me a default, did not even get a notice of default, and on statements i have requested no mention on them of a default.0
