Hi my PC has crashed, dead, caput, & was wondering whether to take it to PC World for repair. At the same time should I get some sort of upgrade done. It has a ASUS p4s800-mx-uayz motherboard & Pent4 processor 2aghz system bus 400hz 512kb l2 cache pga-478pkg whatever all that means. I have BB & would like to do some music downloading but I don,t do any gaming I would also like to get a program that would allow me to transfer camcorder, vhs, cassette music to dvd Comments / advice would be appreciated

dead as in no power?
google pinnacle dazzle, and audacity for the secondary questionEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
If its the power supply that needs replacing then it should cost about £25 to replace. PC World might charge more than that though.
Possibly upgrade the memory on it.
It would be best to get a quote from a small independant repair shop (like us) before going to PC World, it might save you some money.Just owe Dad £2500 for a new car

Firstly DONT GO TO PC WORLD expensive.
A Power Supply will cost you between £10-£15 for a generic one, and £15-£30 for a more heavy duty. Its VERY easy to fit, remove 4 screws and unplug the cables, and put the new one in its place.
However some times i find that a PSU might not protect your motherboard, and that may be damaged.
With regards to your video capturing Windows Movie maker comes installed with windows XP for simple video editing, but will only save a WMV format.
You may need a capture card to get video from a VCR or analog Video camera, a cheap way is to get a TV tuner card that has an analog input, ive got one of theese and it works great - Digital TV and input to record form any analog source

this card has its own capture software included in it.
If youre capturing form a Digital Video camera you will need to check if your PC has firewire input - if you dont you can get a card for about £10, which usually includes ULEAD video studio bundled, which you can capture and edit video with.
Hope this helps

Do you know anybody that could lend you a power supply, just to try it as otherwise it could get very expensive - new psu - no wasn't that, new motherboard - no wasn't that.
Do you get any beeps at all when you start the pc?0 -
Hi thanks everyone for your input special thanks to Mizz Pink thats the info I wanted Do u recommend a DVD player as well! Just got back on the internet after problems when I changed from TT to BT. I should have mentioned that comp. does light up but apart from that nothing no beeps or monitor firing up, could it be the hard drive & if so what make /spec should I get. My sister inlaw has an old computer that works & I was wondering about swopping things in that. Had a look in PC World & they wanted £70 to look at it & then so much to fit new parts + cost of same It would have been as cheap to get a new comp
