Is it a 12 month or certain mileage service?
  • Hi it states 12 months or 12500 whatever comes first, the car was brand new but they say pre reg, so does that mean you have to pay for a 12 month service even if you haven't owned the car for 12 months?

Pre registered dealer cars cannot be sold on until 90 days have elapsed (usually bulk / meet sales target jobs).

So your "7 month old car" is actually, probably, closer to 11 months old in terms of when it was first registered.

So it will be due an annual service shortly according the all powerful computer.
  • Thanks alleycat, as usual car dealers fail to explain the fine print

Yep affraid so, it will have ben registered for them to hit a target but not driven, so by the time you biught it although it will have only had a few miles on the clock its actually a few months old. Likewise if you look at the logbook you will be the 2nd owner.

I'd be temptd to push the service back 3-4 weeks from the exact date then the same next year to make it inline with your expectations. Just make sure its inside the parameters of the warranty and they you've not gone over the 12,500 miles.

I'd take it from the date of the registration and do it within the guidelines by the letter, so there's no risk of them voiding the warranty (see the other thread about the fiesta over the service mileage).

As has been said, if it was pre-registered it's potentially been sitting for a few months before they were allowed to sell it.

Did you not realise that you were buying a second hand car, regardless of the delivery mileage? The car will be worth considerably less as a pre-reg, new or not, so I hope that the price you negotiated reflected this.
To maintain the warranty, you'll need to have it serviced within the dates defined in the warranty, regardless of the date you assumed ownership.

It does not necessarily mean the car was 'worth' less, but the dealer will have had some sort of an incentive to register the car, so they should have been able to pass that on in the form of discount.

Also, it wont make any difference come trade in time.
