Best internet call software for an 84 year old?

Hello all,
Need some advice,
I am having our first baby in May and we would love for our Great Grandparents ( 84 and 86 ) to be able to share it with us in our first few months - they live 100+ miles away
I have never used any internet call software before and was wondering which would be best and most user friendly for a couple in there 80s
They have a laptop and are okay in terms of getting online, doing emails etc so as long as its fairly simple to log in and set up - we can install it at first - then it will be fine
Looking for one that has video capability so that they can see our baby and one that does not incur a fee for it
Skype is the obvious one but have never used it to know how user friendly it is

Skype can be used on smarts phones as well so it will just be like making a normal phone call, also you can normal home style skype phones.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

Can I recommend you also put something like https://www.logmein.com on their system as well? Then that way if they do get any problems you can help them out, much easier then trying to explain what a taskbar is etc....There is a free version on the website somewhere.
Good luck with the baby.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

I am in my 70's and use Windows Live Messenger OK. This week I have bought a pair of speakers from Wilkinsons (£8.50 I think) which connect via a USB and headphone socket. I've tested them out using video clips we have been sent and the difference is amazing, every whisper is heard. Sound via the laptop was acceptable, but these make a difference of 100% imo.
Oh, and our link is to watch/hear grand children primarily. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Islandman, windows live messenger will be no longer soon. Think it has been brought by Skype, you will need to switch over to Skype very soon I think. But it should be a simple process, notifications should pop up telling what you need to do in Live Messenger.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0

live messenger is Microsoft.... Skype is Microsoft... lync (a more robust version of Skype) is also Microsoft.... they'll all merge at some point with different pricepoints for different types of use.0 -
Yes but Messenger will be no more very soon! That's what I was trying to say.
