Did you get your completion date when you exchanged, or after it?

You don't exchange until everyone in the chain has agreed a date - so you'll know before you exchange0

From my understanding, most people organise the date of completion after exchange of contracts. I presume the contracts would need to be verified and filed first.
Having said that, when I went to see the property I'm purchasing last night with some trades workers about the survey, the vendor (who has been moved out for a while) asked "do I give you the keys now?"! Completion prior to exchange eh?!Please respond to mine and others' posts with courtesy and kindness- and I will not deliberately disrespect you. Down with the trolls!0 -
You agree a completion date before exchange of contracts.0

I'm in Scotland, and the last time I bought, I knew the Entry Date for the property I was buying when I had my offer accepted.
Standard practice up here is for an offer to specify the desired entry date as part of the offer, and, barring extreme circumstances, that's the date your solicitor transfers the money and you move in.0 -
As others have said it will be need to be arranged before you exchange.0

I stated when I wanted to complete on. When the contracts were exchange, the completion date was set.0

It's agreed by all parties before exchange0

AFAIK only newbuilds exchange without a completion date. They complete "on notice," once the building work has finished.I am a mortgage broker. We'd discussed our wishes with our solicitor prior to signing the contracts and they called us prior to exchange to confirm completion date that they had agreed with the other sol based on our needs + vendors needs.0

Exchange of contracts cannot be done until completion date is agreed (as it's part of exchange to agree that date so that measures can be taken if it doesn't happen ).
You may need to do a little more reading before you actually get to this point with the house you are buying...0
